How To Market Your Business Consistently – 7 Simple Tips

how to market your business consistently

Consistency = always behaving or performing in a similar way. The main driver to bring an individual to success.

When looking at different ways to market your business, it’s worth considering how to market your business consistently. Any type of marketing – especially if you’re relying on marketing your business organically – needs to be done consistently.

Just as you (hopefully) brush your teeth daily, you must market your business with the same regularity.

But what can often happen when we do a bit of marketing, we generate leads & we become busy with work.

Too busy to stay on top of things. Too busy to share that blog, send that email or share that post. So our marketing drops off a cliff.

Then, when the work is complete, we’ve gone quiet because we haven’t been nurturing that pipe of incoming work.

And so, we must start marketing ourselves again. We then get busy, stop marketing, end up quiet. Round & round we go, in an endless cycle.

This shows us two things: that marketing works. And that we must do our marketing consistently to make a difference.

Consistency in marketing is a problem that many business owners face – myself included.

To stop that endless cycle of peaks & troughs in business, one key thing that will make a difference is to ensure that you are marketing consistently.

Here are 7 tips that I regularly share with my clients to help them stay on top of their marketing content.

7 Tips For Marketing Your Business Consistently

  • Plan.

Fail to plan – plan to fail.

Having a plan to work from means that you know what is going out, to where & when. There is a wide range of apps to help you with your content calendar. Trello & Notion are two I have used with ease.

It doesn’t have to be a fancy content management system – I have also used a good ol’ fashioned paper system (A4 sheet with a grid on) to help me.  The business/content goal is written at the top to keep me on track, then I put what marketing content what is going out, to what platform, & on what day written on it. That way, it takes away any decision paralysis.

Pick out a way that works best for how you like to work.

  • Ideal Client work

To be able to market your business effectively, you need to know your audience. If you don’t do this, you cannot be specific enough in your marketing content.  When you’re too broad, people will miss your message. Once you’ve done this research, you will be able to come up with a series of subjects – sometimes called ‘pillars’ around your business. These are topics that you can ‘cluster’ your content around.

For example, a beauty business might have topics around skincare, wellness, products, and celebrity news.  A pet food business might have ones such as training your pet, animal health/gut health, or pet supplies.

Doing the work around your ideal client means you will gain a deeper understanding of their pain points & objections that you can answer in your content. Best of all, you will always have something to talk about.

  • Batch write your content

Multi-tasking is hugely taxing on your brain.  Some business owners prefer to write their posts on the fly – when something occurs to them/they get a spark of creativity, they will share a post about it.

But the trouble with that is that time flies when you’re having fun.  It can also mean that the little voice in the back of your head is constantly nagging at you to share a post but when you come to write something, that little voice has piped down.

So you leave it. Then it doesn’t get done.

Blocking out a time during your week to batch write your content means that at least you’re getting pen to paper/fingers to keyboard! Some people like to then pop all of that into a scheduling app. They’re then free to get on with the rest of the working week. My batch content day is Sunday. I set aside a couple of hours to do this. However, I’m not a scheduling app person. I copy & paste from a Google Doc instead, but it means that I can share stuff more consistently rather than writing on the fly.

  • Content Ideas.

Stuck for things to say in your marketing content? Try listening to podcasts, check out the Facebook groups for your industry, read a book in your industry.

Think about what questions/problems your audience regularly asks you. What problems have you come across in your work & helped to solve for your clients?

Content is all around us. Have a notes section on your phone for when an idea comes to you!

  • You Choose.

This is your business. That means there isn’t a boss deciding what you ‘should’ be doing. The beauty of working for yourself is that you get to decide. However, there isn’t an option for not showing up or not marketing yourself (sorry!)

You can choose where and how often you show up. You don’t have to show up every day if it’s causing you overwhelm. If you can only manage to share a post three times a week, then do that—just make sure you stick with it. You will build your authority and brand awareness more slowly, but you will still do more by showing up than if you don’t show up at all because you’re too overwhelmed or can’t think of what to say.

Consistency doesn’t mean constancy!

  • Repurpose.

Can you remember 3 posts you saw online yesterday?  What about 5 days ago? You don’t have to reinvent the wheel each time you share something. Sprinkle in some older content posts, make use of what you’ve used in the past & take the pressure off now.

And finally…

At least twice a week, make sure you share a link to a blog post you’ve written, a link to your website/lead magnet & also a testimonial post!

Testimonial posts are your social proof that what you do for business works!

This is just a simple list of small tasks that can help get you to share your marketing content consistently.

Still stuck?

For service-based business owners, how you help your customers can be harder to articulate.

Explaining the problems you solve so that your audience understands what you do & why they need you can be harder still.

You tell your audience all the ways you help them through your content.

If your audience cannot see how you can help them, then they will simply find someone else.

Even if that person isn’t as good as you are at what you do.

Sometimes, though, you might not even know what problems you solve for your audience.

And that might be why your content isn’t working for you.

Either way, I can help you articulate what you do & show you how to get that message out so that your audience understands who you are & precisely how you can help solve their problem.

Stop watching your clients get their problems solved by other people.
